About Me

Who I am

I'm Jake, an 18 year old aspiring software and games developer with a passion for programming and videogames! I've finished my second year and left Godalming college as a student as of June 2025 and am now an IT technician working for Godalming college on a one year contract, applying for university to start September 2026!

My experience

I've been interested in software development since taking computer science in secondary school and learning the basics of python programming, I found it super enjoyable to work on a piece of code and push through difficult elements to create something functional!

This lead into taking A-level computer science and a BTEC level 3 IT course in college propelling my progression in the field as I was able to have hands on experience with real projects that gave me creative freedom to work how I liked! Consulting a client for feedback on progress and making changes as needed helped me understand what it means to be a software developer, and getting a good response from the client was very fulfilling!

I've always been someone that's embraced a challenge and taken them head on, and I hope that wherever I go, the challenge will follow!

What I do in my freetime

I do more than just software development, I'm an avid gamer too! I play all sorts of different games including Hello Games' No Mans Sky, Larian Studios' Baldurs Gate 3 and Ludeon Studios' Rimworld! I draw much of my enjoyment, enthusiasm and inspiration for games development from the games that I've played, especially those that push the boundary on whats possible. No mans sky's endless universe of possibilities, Baldurs Gate 3's incredible worldbuilding and Rimworld's immense storytelling potential are some of the reasons I keep being drawn back to gaming in life!

I also play a few tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer 40,000! Being able to be face to face with someone that you're playing with is something that I believe makes games even more enjoyable! Painting warhammer miniatures and using them in games feels incredibly rewarding as you know that you've put real time and effort into what you're playing with! This is something that I take with me into my software development as well, hard work paying off and being appreciated is an amazing feeling!
